Jane ChamberlinCalgary freelance writer Jane Chamberlin has written about everything from SMART Boards to appendectomies to jazz dance. There is no gadget she can’t deconstruct, no thing of beauty she can’t put into words.

She has built insightful strategic plans, including communications plans for the CBC and strategic plans for Alberta Health Services. Her planning demonstrates a strong ability to synthesize ideas and contextualize a client’s goals.

Jane started her career in communications at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, then went out on her own. Clients included Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Canada Trust and the National Film Board.

After completing an MA in English, she joined SMART Technologies, where she led a team of marketing communications writers for six years.  At SMART she concepted and created materials for global advertising campaigns. As creative lead, she worked with designers and web developers on landing pages, product pages, fact sheets, video scripts, brochures, direct mail pieces, tradeshow materials, magazine articles and more. Over the years the two sides of her brain have begun to meld, and she’s become adept at project management, team leadership and creative strategizing.

Now Jane is back in the freelance world, specializing in marketing communications writing and project management – for web, print, video, multimedia. 

She is also nearing the completion of her PhD in English at the University of Calgary, where her research delves into the ethics of humanitarian appeal campaigns, and the use of empathy and narrative in medicine.
